The Kandy Esala Perahera

Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens

Six kilometres west of Kandy, the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya are among the finest tropical gardens in Asia. Spread across 147 acres within a sweeping bend of the Mahaweli River, the gardens contain over 4,000 species of plants, including a celebrated avenue of royal palms, one of the largest collections of orchids in the region, giant bamboo, spice gardens, medicinal herb collections, and a 200-year-old Java fig tree with a canopy spread of over 2,500 square metres.
